— From Providence College’s Mission Statement

Providence College

Seminarians at Our Lady of Providence will benefit from our close relationship with Providence College. Philosophy Majors and Pre-Theologians have an opportunity to study philosophy and theology in the Dominican tradition, while also enjoying the many amenities and services that the school provides.

Seminarians are enrolled as students at the Providence College, but reside at the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence, which about 1 mile away from campus. They build their academic schedules around the Seminary schedule. When a seminarian fully applies himself to both the seminary program and his academic responsibilities, he will find that the seminary provides the structure and discipline necessary to excel as a student.

Men applying to the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence must apply to Providence College separately. Seminarians ordinarily are students at Providence College majoring in Philosophy. With permission from the rector, a seminarian may begin his studies at Rhode Island College, a secular college nearby, but he is expected to eventually transfer to Providence College in an appropriate time. Once a seminarian is accepted, a liaison at the college will provide guidance on registration and course selection.

Seminarians are encouraged to seek out opportunities for scholarships and financial aid as needed. Providence College offers a very generous discount to all seminarians studying at the Seminary of Our Lady of Providence: Freshmen and Sophomores receive 50% off their tuition, juniors receive 75% off, and seniors receive 100% off tuition. This scholarship is in addition to any other scholarships that a seminarian may receive.
